We are all called to "marketplace ministry". So, I am going to tell you an excerpt story from the Prophetic Training Handbook. It all began when I was working at my daily job...it starts a little bit slow but you will understand in one page. I talk openly and honestly about the local business that turned into a Christian ministry. I was raised in the Baptist Church and educated in a Baptist University. None of that prepared me for what happened next...





CHAPTER ONE: GOD CAN SPEAK AS A VOICE IN YOUR IMAGINATION
For twenty years I have been in the jewelry business. I have learned many hard lessons by trial and error. During the 1980's, when the prosperity message was beginning to be voiced, I learned to stretch my faith and start a business with no money. I walked in faith as much as I could to please God. I felt like God was watching and listening to my words, so he could bless me when He found favor with my faith.


I had a dream one night that seemed so real. In the dream I was getting diamonds in on consignment and was selling them at a small percent over my cost. I was not paying for the diamonds until they sold, so I had nothing to lose if they did not sell. I was only out the postage if I had to send the diamonds back. In the dream, I saw the name of the business in gold leaf letters painted on the window. So, I went to the window to see what name was painted there on the glass. I looked and saw these words. In beautiful gold letters was “The Diamond Dealer.”


This dream came during a 40 day fast. I was only eating one meal a day and that was always after midnight. It may sound funny, but I did not consider it a real fast unless I went the whole day without food. Every night we met at the church to pray for hours. The whole church was taking turns, so that there was always people praying at the altar 24 hours a day. We committed ourselves to a 40 day period of fasting and prayer. Our focus was to intercede for the needs of the church members and the community. We wrote the names of people to be prayed for onto slips of paper and dropped them into a basket. The person's needs were also written on the paper so that we knew how to pray for them. During that season of prayer, I felt closer to God than ever before.



The dream about becoming the diamond dealer was so vivid that for days I could think of nothing else. It seemed to be a prophetic dream. I was only earning $150.00 per week at my job. So, I put my prayer request into the basket with the others. After getting some encouragement from the pastor, I decided to quit my job and put my faith into action. That was the beginning of a long journey. At every step God provided whatever I needed to get into business.



I started a jewelry store with no inventory and no money. I had acquired a used bakery doughnut case which I used as a display case. In it I placed magazine pictures of jewelry that I had cut out of several different trade magazines, because I did not have any jewelry. When customers came into the store I told them that it was a catalog showroom and that I could save them a lot of money if they bought from me. I would lay a stack of special order catalogs on the counter and tell them to look through them and show me what they liked. Then I would pick up the phone and call the number on the inside of the catalog and order the piece of jewelry just in time for their special occasion. I told the customers that I had no employees and low overhead expenses, so naturally I could sell cheaper than my competitors. My family thought I was dreaming. They asked how I was going to sell anything with no merchandise in the showcase. But the Lord blessed my faith and I sold $127,000.00 that first year. Praise God forever!



"You are wondering what any of this has to do with Prophetic Ministry...

but I will get to that if you please bear with me."



Many years have passed since that first jewelry store. The Lord has prospered me beyond anything I ever dreamed. I watched the stock market go up and down. I watched as my sales and income went up and down! It seemed to keep on going down, due to four years of building reconstruction which was going on at our store location in North Carolina. It seemed that nobody wanted to shop in a construction site. I started a jewelry store in Florida to help offset the business in North Carolina which was beginning to slide dramatically. Brenda, my wife was running the North Carolina store and I was running the Florida store. I was driving 12 hours each way twice a week for seven months. This was the only way we could get the new store open. We were both walking in faith and working everyday.


"Now that I have painted the picture for you; it will be easy for you to visualize the rest of my story..."



Every morning I would take the jewelry out of the vault and place it all in the showcases. It took about an hour to get all the jewelry out. The storefront had a picture window and in the window were two showcases. From the sidewalk people would gaze into the window and admire the jewelry.



Each morning I would place a beautiful five carat ruby in the left showcase of the window. I had been placing it in that left showcase for several months. One morning, when I was putting out the jewelry, I placed the five carat ruby in the left window like always.



As my hand reached inside the left showcase....I heard a voice say “This morning put the ruby in the right showcase!”

I was a little surprised and I said “Lord is that YOU or was it just my imagination?”



Then I said “Well, Lord just in case it was YOU, I am going to put it in the right showcase. Watch me now because here I go...”



Within the same hour, a man came in and paid me fifty thousand dollars for that ring. I sat down and tried to recap what had just happened.



And, I realized that I had imagined hearing the voice in my mind. This was so significant because we had been trying to sell that ruby ring for over three years. We had spent too much buying it and desperately needed to unload it to get our investment back out of it. I hurried home to North Carolina to rejoice with Brenda and share the good news.



It so happened that next Sunday that the prophetic minister, Bob Jones was going to be ministering at Mountain Vintage Fellowship in town. I called pastor Steve Scroggs and asked him if his church knew who he was. He said “No, not yet but they were about to find out.”




We were both so excited that Prophet, Bob Jones was coming to his church. I asked him if it would be alright if after the church service we could have Sunday dinner at my house and invite Bob to come over, too. He agreed and they all came over as planned.



"When I had a chance to get Bob by himself, I told him the story about selling the five carat ruby and hearing the voice in my imagination."



Bob smiled and said “You were in your Right Mind. You got that?”



I said “No, I don't get it. Would you please say it another way so I can understand better?”



(over the years I learned to say this exact sentence many times, because Bob would say something and I would notice the other pastors in the room would nod their heads like they understood everything. Whenever I asked Bob to say it another way then he would be a bit gruff and say it clearly!)



Bob smiled again and said “I will tell you that all prophecy begins in your imagination!”


Bob said to me, “Look at this and tell me what you see.” I looked where he was pointing and saw a clear glass of ice water with a round, green slice of lime floating on the top.



Bob said “Close your eyes and tell me what you see.”


I closed my eyes and said “Well, I see the glass of ice water with the green slice of lime floating in it.”



He said, "That is right. Your mind is like a television set. The Lord can send you images anytime he wants you to see something in the spirit. The Lord can send you entire moving pictures that appear like movies. If you do not limit God to speaking only through your ears, then you will find fav.....
